About the Urban Granola

My name’s Megan Griffith, I’m a twenty-something eclectic living in the Hampden neighborhood of Baltimore City. I attended Maryland Institute College of Art where I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Environmental Design. A year after graduating, I realized the world wasn’t yet ready for me! Thus, I found myself back in school and earned my Master in City and Regional Planning (M.C.R.P.) with a specialization in sustainable cities and urban design in 2014 from Morgan State University.

I’m in this profession not necessarily because I love the urban world (although I certainly do!); rather, I’m in it because I love the natural world so much more! In recent years, I’ve come to the realization that development is not only inevitable, it is often necessary. So I have taken it upon myself to protect the environment which I love so dearly by ensuring that future development is carried out properly.

I like to think of myself as a considerate person, generally very selfless in my actions. I care more for others and the world around me than I do myself; which is why I wanted to become an Urban Designer and Planner. I strongly believe that our environments—both natural and man-made—have a tremendous impact on our collective and individual attitudes, well-being, and capacities. This belief, combined with my lifelong compassion for the natural world, pushes me to create more conscious, sustainable, and sensitive designs.

One important element about this WordPress site is that it will be the temporary home for my organization, Charm City EcoVillage. Learn more about this organization by flipping through some of the pages you find here!

As for the personal dirt

I’m a tree-hugging, bike-riding, animal-loving hippie….who just also happens to admire cities and all the technological gadgets within them! It’s not hypocritical, it’s called balance. Don’t get it? I’m a Libra, and Libras are all about balance and harmony! (Just take a look at my husband and you’ll understand! He’s my complete opposite!!)

Does that say enough about me? If not, here are 10 more titles to explain everything I am that’s important:

  • Environmentalist
  • Vegan
  • Visionary
  • Urbanist
  • Free spirit
  • Artist
  • Lover
  • The mama of a beautiful black cat (her name’s Nudge!)
  • Idealist
  • Earth-spiritualist
